Nursing Home Abuse & Neglect
The elderly and disabled frequently experience abuse and neglect in nursing homes, rest homes and assisted living facilities throughout North Carolina. Negligent care and treatment (malpractice) can result in numerous personal injuries - - malnutrition, dehydration, pressure sores (bed sores) and pneumonia. A facilities' lack of supervision can lead to wandering, falls and accidents. Excessive use of physical and chemical restraints for the convenience of staff is all too common. Such neglect and abuse results in the suffering - -and even death - - of residents. We believe that an experienced attorney, a lawyer with the knowledge and resources to fight the nursing homes and their insurance companies, is critical to proving the facility's negligence.
The attorneys in our law firm represent the victims of the neglected and abused. Our lawyers represented the family of an elderly man who froze to death outside an assisted living facility in central North Carolina. We are currently representing the family of an assisted living center resident who was denied repeated requests to be taken to a local emergency room. The resident subsequently died because of the center's actions. The Division of Facility Services temporarily suspended this center's right to admit any additional residents. We are also representing the family of an elderly woman who was dropped by staff members, suffered a serious closed head injury and subsequently died. These are examples of only some of the case on which we have worked.
The evaluation of potential cases requires a thorough and detailed understanding of the various regulations which govern nursing homes, rest homes and assisted living facilities. Our lawyers have the knowledge and experience to evaluate and prosecute cases against facilities which have been negligent in their care and supervision of residents. We have worked closely with county Department of Social Services and have even appeared before the Board of the Division of Facility Services representing family members who were seeking answers for the loss of loved ones.
The links on this page will allow you to review the state's Nursing Home and Adult Care Home Bill of Rights and to report violations. If you feel that you have a case of neglect you can contact the Division of Social Services (DSS) for the county in which the abuse occurred. You can also request information on any nursing home from the Division of Facility Services. These are only some of the resources we use in investigating every nursing home case.
Please use our nursing home abuse form to contact us regarding any claim of abuse or neglect.
